College of Healing Values: kindness. compassion and empathy

As energy beings in human form on earth, we are connected to all other energy beings. Because everything is energy vibrating at different frequencies, the energy of others has an impact on us, and we have an impact on the energy of others.

This principle was much easier for us to understand when we were more closely connected to the natural world. Through urbanisation and industrialisation, many peoples have become disconnected from the natural environment. Through over-exposure to the energy of others, cutting off from, or dissociation from our experience of the world and the people around us, has become a survival strategy to avoid overwhelm. That survival strategy has become so second nature to us that we do not even realise we are doing it. Instead of automatically feeling connected to the world around us, we automatically feel disconnected from it so that we can exist in an environment with so much out of balance energy.

The College of Healing training helps us to understand how to manage our energy so that we do not have to become overwhelmed and we do not have to disconnect from the world around us to survive. When we remain conscious and can sustain through that connection, we can remain resourced enough to be able to be aware of the feelings of others, without being overwhelmed by them or allowing them to take us out of balance.

When we can empathise, or feel each others’ feelings, we can gain greater understanding of the experience of another person. When we can feel each others’ feelings, we can have more compassion for each others’ pain. When can have compassion for the pain of others, we can respond with kindness to bring more balance to the situation.

We all have experience of what generates love and safety and what generates fear and unrest. The College of Healing training helps us understand how to bring more love, compassion and kindness to situations. This is our natural ability and is based in our deep human experience that stretches back across evolutionary time. An example of this would be Metta Bhavana, or the loving-kindness meditation, which is an ancient Buddhist practice designed to cultivate feelings of unconditional love, goodwill, and compassion towards oneself and all living beings. Another example of this would be the feelings we have when we hold a new-born baby.

We can learn how to establish and manage strong energetic boundaries. We can learn how to connect with the infinite, abundant source of life force energy that enables us to stay connected to the world around us.Having empathy for each other by feeling each others’ feelings, having compassion for each other by offering each other love instead of judgement, and extending kindness to each other through offering help and support, is the way to generate peace in relationships, communities and international relations. College of Healing training is rooted in these values. It teaches us HOW to stay resourced and resilient without having to lose our sensitivity.
